Well, not really. But Jared over at Spill has put up a few pages of a rejected "draft" of THE DARK KNIGHT penned by Michael Bay. (Relax, it's a joke.)
Of Rachael Dawes, fake Michael Bay writes:
"We pan to a beautiful woman: platinum blonde with a huge rack. She is the hottest woman in the world, but she wears glasses because she is also the smartest woman in the world."
Another day, another DARK KNIGHT clip. It gives a nice long glimpse of Ledger doing his Joker and being appropriately menacing. Oh, and be on the lookout for a cameo by Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont at the end.
A small but juicy bit here. The Goon, Eric Powell's comic about a bouncer who becomes an enforcer for the mob, is coming to the big screen via David Fincher (SE7EN, FIGHT CLUB). He has optioned the rights to create a CG flick with Blur Studio and Dark Horse Entertainment.
Mark Millar, the mind behind WANTED, has long expressed his interest in reviving Superman. Now, he swears, something's happening. From his message board:
I've been planning this my entire life. I've got my director and producer set up, and it'll be 2011. This is how far ahead you have to think.
...
That Superman news is interesting, isn't it? In the interests of clarity (because I'm sure this will be picked up somewhere) a very well known American action director heard about my love of Superman, approached my and asked me to team up with he and his producer to make a pitch for this. We've been talking for several weeks now and, if this is going to happen, we'll know by Christmas. He has huge pull at WB so fingers crossed. But this is nothing more than a huge US name pulling me into his fold and making me part of a package.
He also says that we will know if this is happening by this Christmas.
I'd take this with a grain of salt, however. Millar's made some claims that haven't exactly been true before. (Claiming Eminem was desperate to be in WANTED, only to have the rapper's people flat out deny the claim comes to mind.)
Perhaps one of the most influential silent films ever made, Fritz Lang's 1927 METROPOLIS, has been released and re-released over the years. Yet, every time since the movie's premiere -- it has never been intact. You see, parts of the film have been lost over time and never seen again. Entire sections of the film -- plot, characters -- have disappeared entirely.
As such, we've never actually seen this masterpiece of a film as it was intended. But that might just now change.
According to the German publication, Die Zeit, a near-complete, if not complete copy of Lang's picture has been found in Beuno Aires. Go figure.
Martin Koerber, the restorer of the hitherto longest known version of “Metropolis”, who also examined the footage, said to ZEITmagazin: “No matter how bad the condition of the material may be, the original intention of the film, including all of its minor characters and subplots, is now once again tangible for the normal viewer. The rhythm of the film has been restored.”
Let it first be said that some details of this story have to be left a bit vague to protect the sources behind it. We apologize.
Anyways, this may not be as big of a scoop as it was a few months ago -- but GWM can confirm that a sequel to Columbia's not-even-yet-released HANCOCK is indeed in the works. While this certainly isn't that huge of a surprise given how big of a hit the flick is looking to be, take it to the bank that there is movement on the movie. If it doesn't happen -- it will only be because the movie flopped.
What's interesting is that not only is it in the works, but it has been for a while now. Apparently the studio was so excited with the prospects of the Will Smith vehicle, they sent HANCOCK 2 into development months ago.
No word on the details, but if HANCOCK opens as well as it looks to, expect news soon.
An interesting Cruise/Bale story out today. The first part of the saga comes from Variety. The trade is reporting that Tom Cruise has dropped out of THE 28TH AMENDMENT, a conspiracy thriller directed by Phillip Noyce (PATRIOT GAMES, THE SAINT) about a president who realizes his entire government is actually run by a shadowy cabal.
Cruise is now heading onto Noyce's EDWIN A. SALT, a story about a CIA agent accused of being a traitor and sent on the run.
But wait -- there's more! Who's set to replace Cruise in THE 28TH AMENDMENT? According to Moviehole, Cruise's replacement may just be none other than Christian Bale. Warner Bros. is courting the Welsh actor but nothing is set yet.
Special agent territory is nothing new for Cruise, but Bale for president? Could be interesting.
