As if Johnny Depp has been in enough blockbusters as of late,
The Hollywood Reporter states that he is to team up with Michael Mann for a film adaptation of Brian Burrough's nonfiction book "Public Enemies: America's Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-34".
The book centers on the the massive crime wave that occurred during the era of the Depression. Depp is reportedly eying the role of John Dillinger, a prominent bank robber during this period. Previously, Depp was scheduled to star in the Warner Independent films
THE RUM DIARIES and
SHANTARAM, but these projects were instead pushed back due to the writer's strike.
This sounds like the perfect match. Michael Mann needs to have a blockbuster hit after the stench that was
MIAMI VICE blew through theaters, and Johnny Depp is just the man to bring the talented director back to
HEAT status.
